The @EP_Democracy mission to the United States 🇺🇸 provided us with valuable insights into countering disinformation and protecting against external threats. Together with our American counterparts, we shared our experience with disinformation in the EU, which is primarily spread by Russia and China. The United States faces these influences as well. We agreed that we cannot allow Russian or Chinese propaganda to undermine our societies, because that is exactly what both powers want: to weaken the EU from within and create the impression that the EU is bad. We must respond firmly to these efforts while also strengthening public resilience, promoting critical thinking, and educating society. In the age of AI, however, it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish truth from lies. This is a challenge both the EU and the United States are facing.
