After years of disputes, Europe finally has a unified set of rules to tackle illegal migration. 🇪🇺👍🏻 What does this mean in practice? ✅ Mandatory security and identity checks for all migrants at the EU’s external borders. ✅ Registration of biometric data in the shared Eurodac database. ✅ Faster border asylum procedures for applicants with a low chance of being granted asylum. In my view, these procedures should be even faster. There is no reason to delay. ✅ Mandatory return procedures for those who do not qualify for international protection. ✅ A stronger role for Frontex and reinforced protection of the EU’s external borders. ✅ A common European system designed to prevent a repeat of the chaos seen in 2015. One principle must continue to apply, and I have said it for years: without effective returns, no migration system will work. Anyone who has no legal right to remain in Europe must leave Europe. Europe needs migration to be under control.
