On April 7, 1348, Charles IV. legally established the Bohemian Crown with his bulls.
The Bohemian Crown was legally established by Charles IV. with his bulls of April 7, 1348, this was actually done as a kind of defense against the abuse of royal power - as the name suggests, this state entity officially belonged to the Czech, so-called St. Wenceslas Crown. The king could only borrow the crown, and thus the rule over his country, from St. Wenceslas. However, the term Crown and Table of the Bohemian Kingdom first appears in 1322 during the reign of John of Luxembourg.
Charles IV established the crown within the scope of the territorial gains of his father John of Luxembourg - in addition to Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, the territory also included Cheb, Upper Lusatia and numerous fiefs in the German region. During Charles's reign, Upper Palatinate and Lower Lusatia were also added (1370). In the years 1373–1415, the Margraviate of Brandenburg was loosely annexed.
