Esztergom is already passing by my window. I’m just returning from Budapest, where I served as a jury member for a competition to transform one of its largest brownfields (Rákosrendező) into a vibrant urban district.
I was invited by the pleasant liberal mayor @bpkaracsonyg and the city’s chief architect, Zoltán Erő. Both know Prague very well, and we discussed a wide range of topics, mostly regarding planning, but of course also politics.
I’ve loved this city since I was a child, but now I’ve fallen in love with all the people I met here. Somehow, we are closer these days
It was an honor to be part of the preparations for such a crucial project. It makes me happy that, despite the difficult political situation in Hungary, its capital remains an island resisting Orbán’s obscurantism, standing on the side of civilization, democracy, and our Europe.
There is a great chance that the April elections will bring change and better times for all of Hungary. In three weeks, I’ll make myself a black coffee and tune into Hungarian TV. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
