Good evening from 🇪🇸 Sevilla! Tomorrow, I begin my programme here with a clear objective: to strengthen 🇪🇺 Europe’s global development leadership at the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, or FfD4. From Monterrey in 2002 to Doha to Addis Ababa – and now Sevilla – the world is coming together again after 10 years. The task? To realign global development efforts and make them more effective, more impactful. Europe remains the world’s largest development donor. But public budgets alone won’t close the investment gap to achieve the Sustainable development goals. That’s why this year’s conference is also about something else: creating the right investment environment in partner countries, and de-risking projects to mobilise private capital at scale.
