If we fail to secure a just peace for the victims of Putin’s invasion, we are destined to prepare for another war. When I received a Ukrainian Order of Merit, second class, at the end of 2023, I stated that supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression is both our moral and strategic duty. I have upheld this principle throughout the Russian invasion, whether in the energy sector, the economy, or any other area. Nothing has changed since then. It was the Russian aggresor who started the war against Ukraine, and he is now responsible for hundreds of thousands of innocent lives lost, devastated cities, and the ruined lives of millions. That is why there is no reason to make concessions to Putin at the expense of his Ukrainian victims. Such concessions would reward his actions and encourage further armament - not just for him, but for other global aggressors as well. That is why I appreciate that Europe has been Ukraine’s main supporter throughout and that we are making it clear that we intend to continue and even increase this support as well as to strengthen our own resilience.Kopírovat text
