I condemn the draconian 20-year prison sentence handed down to 78-year-old publisher Jimmy Lai. This is not justice, but a "death sentence" for peaceful dissent, aided by the passivity of the international community. The governments of democratic countries have simply stood by and watched as China violates its obligations under international treaties. But violations of international treaties must have consequences.
